Welcome to 3RDW's Web Page

June is finally here!! We have worked very hard this school year preparing for the assessments, new topics learned, and reviewed old lessons. The students worked very hard while using their strategies to complete the many tasks required on a daily basis.

We continue to learn new concepts for all subject areas. We will improve skills and strategies in reading a variety of texts to answer a different types of questions (multiple choice, short answer using word reference, and report/essay forms using evidence from the text to support our answers). In ELA, we are reading common core texts, leveled texts, expanding our vocabulary, identifying and applying comprehension skills (cause/effect relationships, fact/opinion, making inferences and drawing conclusions, identifying the main idea and important details, summarizing, etc.), learning spelling rules, and more. We use the RACE strategy in all subject areas to improve our responses to short answer and essay questions. Ask your child what each letter stands for in the acronym to help them answer questions. In math, we are preparing for 4th grade concepts with "Step-Up" activities. We are learning about New York State symbols in social studies and have been learning about electricity in science.

*PLEASE NOTE* ALL homework assignments require word referents (using words from the question to form complete sentences/answers). Homework should be completed in pencil, unless otherwise noted. Your child will lose points for each piece of homework that is incomplete.

Your child is earning a new set of points toward their reward for our June party this month. Your child needs to earn at least 189 points to participate. Continue to check our ClassDojo account online to see how your child is doing each day, and to see how many points they have earned so far. The party will take place on Friday, June 20, 2014. More information will follow as the date gets closer.

Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday June 10th, Please be sure you apply sunscreen on your child prior to the start of the schjool day, and make sure your child wears sneakers to participate. The 4th quarter awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for June 23, 2014 at 1:15 pm in the auditorium. more information will be sent home as the date approaches.

We have had a very fun-filled school year this year. We thank you for your continued support and appreicate all you do in providing the best edeucation possible for your child. We wish you a very happy, healthy, and safe summer! We look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!!
